The Catawba Valley Gem and Mineral Club’s Purpose
Increase knowledge of the earth sciences

For less than a couple bucks a month, you and your entire family can take advantage of the many benefits the club has to offer, including exclusive access to certain rockhounding locations, fellowship at monthly meetings and participation at other club events, such as the annual rock and gem show. To qualify to join, all you have to do is attend two monthly meetings, complete an application form and pay the modest dues! Check out the meeting site information on the home page for when and where meetings are held.
We believe participation by quality members and not just numbers is what makes a club successful. This is the reason why the CVGMC requires attendance at two monthly meetings in order for newcomers to join. So, if you are good person who opts for quality over quantity, the CVGMC is for you. USA

The North Jersey Mineralogical Society is a Charter member (One of the original founding clubs) of the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies and is affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
The NOJMS is a 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit educational organization. We provide educational programs to our members and the general public through our club meetings, and occasional visits to schools and other organizations and groups.
Our society started in 1945 and has been going strong ever since. In 2015, we celebrated our 70th Anniversary. A brief history of our club is shown on the lower half of this page.
Our goal is to bring together people who have a common interest in the study of earth sciences and mineral collecting in the Northern New Jersey area. Our mission is to educate our membership and others on how to preserve and document the geology and mineralogy of Northern New Jersey as well as to collect and preserve representative specimens from the area. Our club maintains an extensive LIBRARY (click for the entire list) as well as a small mineral display at the museum.
The NoJMS meets once monthly at The Paterson Museum, located at #2 Market Street, Paterson, NJ, in the Great Falls Historic District. Our meetings are open to the public and include a social hour/mineral sale, business meeting, mineral drawings and an informative and educational lecture. (see meetings page for details)
We strongly encourage our younger members to attend as the meetings are a great place to begin or add to your mineral collection and knowledge!
MEMBERSHIP has its perks!!!
NOJMS has many activities for our members throughout the year such as field trips, outings to museums and shows, club t-shirts, an annual picnic and collecting day at Sterling Hill Mine and a holiday party for members. We also publish “The Treasure Chest”, our monthly newsletter, which may be found on the “Newsletter” page. Lastly, we hold 3 shows per year to benefit the club. In the spring and fall, we host our annual all-outdoor Rock Swap-n-Sell at Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, and in early spring, we sponsor our annual Indoor Rock, Gem and Mineral Show that features a wide variety of dealers, door prizes, and fee giveaways for the kids. Club members are very involved in running these shows. Revenue from these shows continues to allow our club to provide activities, picnics, and parties for our members to enjoy at no cost to them.
If you like what you see so far and would like to become a member of NOJMS, you can join us today! Membership dues are only $15 per year for a single adult, $20 for a Couple, and $30 for a family membership (2 adults and up to 3 children). Membership dues help pay for club activities, operating expenses, membership in the AFMLS and Eastern Federation, and insurance coverage for club outings. Paid members receive a membership card and club patch.

The main gem, mineral, and jewelry show, held Saturday and Sunday, takes place in the spacious interior of the Littell Community Center, on Munsonhurst Road (Route 517) near its intersection with Route 23 in the southern part of Franklin.
Dozens of mineral, gem, fossil, and jewelry dealers come to Franklin for this event and open up shop. This show is sponsored and organized by the Franklin Mineral Museum and is the Museum’s largest annual event. A similar show that takes place in April, in the same venue, is jointly sponsored by the New Jersey Earth Science Association, the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, and the Sterling Hill Mining Museum.
Swap-and-Sell outdoor show
This event, held Saturday and Sunday, also takes place at the Littell Community Center.
This event is held outdoors along the access road between the ball field and playground. Depending on weather, up to 100 (sometimes more) dealers and collectors set up tables on which to display their items for sale, including minerals (both local and worldwide), jewelry (lots!), gems, fossils, and more. One of the main attractions of this part of the show is that one never knows what will show up; items seen in recent years include a shillelagh and a bullwhip. This part of the show, as well as the show banquet listed below, are sponsored by the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society.
The Franklin Mineral Museum’s mission is to preserve and disseminate knowledge related to the mineral wealth, geology, and history of “the greatest mineral locality on Earth,” and to foster scientific inquiry into those subjects.
To that end the Museum acquires, preserves, and displays mineralogical and geological specimens, artifacts, and documents related to the history and mineralogy of the Franklin-Sterling Hill mining district. The Museum also acquires and displays archaeological and paleontological specimens and other items of interest.
The Franklin Mineral Museum, a nonprofit educational institution, is located at 32 Evans Street, Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey. The Museum was created solely for educational and scientific purposes, was incorporated June 2, 1964, and first opened its doors to visitors on October 9, 1965.
The Delaware Mineralogical Society, Inc. will hold its 56th Annual Earth Science Gem and Mineral Show at a New Show Location — DoubleTree by Hilton; 4727 Concord Pike (Rt-202); Wilmington, Delaware 19803. Hours Saturday are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m.
The show features educational exhibits of mineral, lapidary and fossil specimens, displays from regional and university museums, a roster of fine dealers of minerals, fossils, gems, jewelry and lapidary supplies, door prizes, demonstrations of gem cutting and polishing and a children’s table, where youngsters may purchase inexpensive mineral and fossil specimens.
Admission is $6.00, $5.00 for seniors, $4.00 for youngsters between 12 and 16, and free for children under 12 and scouts in uniform when accompanied by an adult.
The Delaware Mineralogical Society is a non-profit organization, affiliated with the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies, and dedicated to learning and teaching about the earth sciences, rocks, minerals, fossils and the lapidary arts. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and education of mineralogy, paleontology and the lapidary arts. We have monthly meetings at the Delaware Museum of Natural History, just north of Wilmington, Delaware. We have speakers and programs that promote the goals of the society at each meeting.
We conduct several field trips a year to fossil and mineral localities in the tri-state area and further afield. Many of our DMS members belong to other clubs in the tri-state area, creating close ties and providing opportunities for some co-sponsored field trips a year.
