It is composed of a unique group of individuals who are actively involved in field collecting mineral specimens from many places in the Western United States and especially Utah.  Many of the members are renowned for their original mineral and mineral location finds, and several members have minerals named for them.  MCU typically conducts field trips for its members approximately eight months out of the year. Monthly meetings include programs ranging from geology, prospecting, and micro-mineral identification to presenting new finds from field trips or purchases from state, national, and international mineral shows!
